We grasp God through this statement from Aquinas' Summa theologica:
This proposition “God exists” is self-evident in itself, since its predicate is the same with its subject.
This does not allow an explicit definition; only a recursive one. An absolute definition may not be possible in our minds, for they would then contain all that is. Nevertheless, we conclude, all being is implied in God. Since time and energy are implied in being, and information corresponds to how the being is, then God unites successfully being, time, energy, and information. Therefore, he successfully acts.
Ends are hierarchised. Some ends are intermediary, while others are ultimate. I go to the library to borrow a book. Going to the library is an intermediary end to get the book. So, getting the book is higher in the hierarchy of ends than going to the library. But I borrow the book to read it. So, reading is even higher.
If God created man with purpose, then, He will provide man with the means to achieve its own end, including the knowledge of what he must do. Some incarnation may be random. I need a hammer to push nails. I do not care whether it is red or green. If someone dies, that is, is not any more, then it must not matter to the plan of God.
Indeed, selecting means putting something into being. Therefore, God is the only agent that selects exactly Himself. Consequently, the end of God is Himself.
Hence, we conclude the end to which man must strive to contribute is the union of being, time, energy and information. That is, he must transcend himself. And to achieve that, he must follow the hierarchy of ends.
He must not unite his self arbitrarily with strangers far away, for they do not unite a capacity to act. He must serve himself, through time; once he is capable of action, then increase the size of his self to his family, etc. through the nation, mankind, to finally reach God. If his nation is incoherent, incapable of action, then it is useless to serve mankind first, as mankind includes his nation.
The universe will be restless until God's creation will accomplish his plan through transcendence. Then, the universe will become one united self, having become God, the cause and end of everything. It will be His last incarnation. Having attained his end, He will stop acting.
